Long Thatcher

Pastor, Vietnamese Ministry

Pastor Long Thatcher (Thach Long Hanh) was born in Tra Vinh, South Vietnam on April 14, 1972. He is the eldest chid of a military family who helped aid American interests during the Vietnam War. In 1981, Pastor Thatcher’s mother felt that God was calling her to leave Vietnam with her son and two daughters and they embarked on a journey that brought them first to Cambodia. From there, they walked through a mine field to a refugee camp along the border of Thailand. Unfortunately, they were not eligible to travel to the United States and remained at the camp for four years. However, Pastor Thatcher’s unit in the camp was next to a Seventh-day Adventist Church and God used those difficult times to direct him to Jesus Christ and the Christian faith.

In 1986, Pastor Thatcher, his mother, and two sisters arrived in the United States. In 1988, Pastor Thatcher’s mother married his stepfather, and led the family to attend the local Seventh-day Adventist church and attend Bible studies. They accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and in time everyone was baptized and joined the church family.

In 2001, Pastor Thatcher graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. In the summer of 2003, Pastor Thatcher furthered his studies at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University. While there, he served as the associate pastor at the Lakeview church in Chicago. Upon completion of his Master of Divinity in 2005, Pastor Thatcher served as associate pastor of the El Monte Vietnamese church until receiving a call to serve at the Vietnamese church plant at the Oakland Market Street Church.

In 2006, Pastor Thatcher married the former Vicky Bich Hien Nguyen and in 2009 they welcomed the birth of their son Andrew.

Pastor Thatcher’s greatest desire is to have the characteristics of his Lord Jesus Christand his passion is to introduce families to the Savior of the world.
